RBI Grade B Examination – A Brief Overview

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) conducts national level Grade B examination for filling few vacancies in its branches, all across the country. This examination attracts the best of candidates as the job profile is very reputed and the pay scale is very attractive for all the candidates. RBI Grade B examination is conducted over three phases. Candidates who clears the Phase-I and Phase-II level of the examination are eligible for the final phase that is the interview stage. RBI Grade B 2021 notification was released on 25th January 2021. RBI Grade B phase-I exam (General) commences on 1st March 2021. Phase-II examination of the RBI Grade B (General) commences on 1st April 2021. Interview process and declaration of the final result will be notified at a later date. Paper – II and Paper – III examination for RBI Grade B (DEPR/DSIM) commences on March 31, 2021; DEPR stands for Department of Economic and Policy Research and DSIM stands for Department of Statistics and Information Management.


The total number of vacancies as per notification released in 2021 is 322. These vacancies are for three different posts. The vacancy for the post of Grade B (DR) – DEPR is 29, the vacancy for the post of Grade B (DR) – DSIM is 23 and vacancies for the post of Grade B (DR) – General is the highest at 270 vacancies. Candidates can get their RBI Admit Card by visiting the official website of Reserve Bank of India. Candidates should have their Registration or login ID and Password or Date of Birth while downloading their RBI Admit Card. The call letter will have important information such as date of the examination, time of the examination, venue of the examination. On the day of the examination, candidates will have to carry with them print out of the admit card, passport size photograph which will be affixed on the admit card, and photo identity proof.


Some of the ID proof that can be carried by the candidates are PAN card, Passport, Driving License, Voters card, PAN Card, Aadhar Card, bank passbook with the candidates photograph, ID card issued by college or university, photo ID proof issued by gazetted officer on official letterhead. RBI Grade B examination is conducted in English and Hindi languages. For the post of RBI Grade B (DR) General, phase I is for 120 minutes, with each section having timings, and phase II of the examination will have 90 minutes for each paper. For the DEPR/DSIM examination, Paper 1 is for 120 minutes, Paper 2 is for 180 minutes, and Paper 3 is for 90 minutes. The application form for the examination will be available from 28th January 2021 to 15th February 2021. The application form will need to be filled online.


For Preliminary examination the 4 different sections will be General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, English Language and Reasoning sections. General Awareness will have 80 questions carrying a total of 80 marks, quantitative aptitude will have 30 questions with maximum 30 marks. English language will have 30 questions with maximum 30 marks. The Reasoning section will have 60 questions with a maximum score of 60. Hence Prelims will have a total of 200 questions with a maximum score of 200.


For the mains examination, there will be Economics and Social Issues section, which is objective in nature; there is Paper II on English language which is descriptive paper type, and paper III is on finance and management, this paper is of objective type.
